According to Dr Sharib:

"Al Hadi is the One Who guides and shows the path of illumination, purification,
and reformation."

To emulate the name we are advised to try to guide the people and direct them
to the right path.

Appropriate recitation of the name secures guidance and direction.

Thus have We made
For every prophet an enemy
Among the sinners: but enough
Is thy Lord to guide
And to help.

Al-Ghazali describes three kinds of guidance from God.

(a). He is the One Who guides the elect among His servants to a knowledge of
His essence so they can call it as a witness to things.
(b) He is the One Who guides the bulk of His servants to the things He has
created so they call them to witness His essence.
(c) He Who guides each created thing to what it needs in order to satisfy its
needs.

In respect of the last he indicates some of the phenomena in the natural world -
in what is nowadays called instinct. Things such as the bees constructing the
honeycomb. He quotes the Qur'an 20:50 " Who gave unto everything its nature
and then guided it aright"

He says the prophets and scholars are those who guide creatures towards
happiness in the world to come but are themselves guided by God and are
subservient to His power and planning.

Among the Sufis guidance along the Way is essential for spiritual development.
It is said that God is the guide and the spiritual guide is the path. Shah Wali
Ullah of Delhi describes two types of guide. One has attained some spiritual
station and the capability of guiding others to that particular stage appears
within him. The other guide is the one who has a divine mandate and he can
bring the disciple to a knowledge of all the various states and stations until he
reaches the real goal. The latter type is rare and truly blessed is the person
who is receives such a guidance.
