According to Dr Sharib:

"Al-'Afuww is the One Who forgives and overlooks the mistakes
ommission and commission."

To emulate the name we are advised to try to evince the spirit of 'forgive
and forget'. If anyone is harsh, cruel and unjust to us we should
unhesitatingly forgive and pardon that person and try to oblige the
person if possible.

Appropriate recitation results in the forgiveness of our sins by Allah.

Al-Ghazali tells us: that this name is close to Al-Ghafur (The All
Forgiving) but is more expressive because it connotes erasing sins
whilst the former implies concealing sins.

As far as man goes he says that the one who repents of wrongdoing
becomes
like one who did no wrong.
