Dr Sharib says:
"Al-Malik is the One Who is independent of everything and of every person. He
is the real King. His sovereignty is undisputed, indivisible, and absolute.
People know only a very limited degree of kingship."
'To emulate the name you should try to realise and recognise that God is the
real King. You should then hope for nothing from the people.....'

Some other references:
Al-Ghazali tells the well known story of a an earthly king who asked a wise man
what he needed. In reply the man asked ' is that the way you talk to one who
has two slaves who are your masters?' He then explained that these two slaves
were greed and desire which he had conquered whilst they ruled the king.
Al-Ghazali emphasises that the true King is One without need, but Who is
needed by every thing for its very existence. Kingship in the spiritual realm
partakes of this nature but the individual still has need of God.
He also emphasises the importance of ruling properly the kingdom of one's
own heart and mind where the body functions are the subjects.
