According to Dr Sharib:

'Al-Jabbar is the One Who dominates and is not dominated.'

Emulation of the Name implies self-control and self-realisation.

Appropriate recitation of the Name affords protection from the tyranny of
the people and if engraved on a ring it makes the wearer dear and loving
to the people.

Al-Ghazali says that among men the quality of the Compeller is seen in
the holy Prophet Muhammed in as much as he said 'Were Moses the son
of Imran alive he could not but follow me, for I am the Master of Adams
offspring - and that is no boast'.

(Al-Ghazali - The Ninety-nine Beautiful Names of God. Trans. Burrel/Daher: ITS: 1992.)

According to Shaykh Tosun, Hazrat Ali used to pray ;-

Ya Jabbira kulli kasirin wa ya musahilla kulli 'asirin.
'O Jabbar, the One who puts together all that is broken and the one who
brings ease to every difficulty.'

The quality of compelling others that arises in the sufi derives not at all
from his ego or personal will.

Dr Sharib once explained that the quality of
being compelled by the
Divine, experienced during the ecstatic dance of the Sufis, is related to
'the spirit'.
